Tap Zoo app for iPhone causes $1500 bill

Email

In-app purchasing is great for developers who make a living our of their apps, however we have recently heard a report of a game developed for children which led to $1500 of inadvertent purchases.

The game is called Zoo Tap and you can find out full details regarding the game here http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/tap-zoo/id360893304?mt=8, apparently an 8-year-old played the game on his relatives iPhone and unknowingly bought “gold coins” to unlock animals – at no time was a password entered.

Apparently the developer and iTunes are looking into the issue, and we would be surprised if a refund isn’t given, but we just thought we would warn you about the problem and ask if you anything similar has ever happened to you before.

Before we leave you we must tell you a simple way of avoiding a similar problem, simply go to settings, general, enable restrictions and then disable in-app purchase. Obviously this is an overkill way of doing avoiding the problem, but it is better than a $1500 bill!
