When Apple first started talking about iOS 5 and how it would improve compliant hardware it was hard to ignore, but now that people have had a chance to install the new OS version on the iPhone 4 not everything is as good as it should be.
We are hearing lots of reports of iOS 5 draining battery life, apparently prior to this people would expect a day of life or so of usage from a single charge, now people are surprised if it makes it a day – that’s not cool!
No definitive answer has been given yet to pinpoint exactly what caused this, however there are a few things to try. Firstly we are told that some people needed to properly shut down and restart the iPhone multiple times to resolve the issue, whilst other claim that even turning of iCloud and location-related functionality didn’t improve things.
One of our readers suggests that restoring the iPhone from iOS 5 witout recovering from the old iOS4 backup resolved the issue, but obviously resulted of messages, icon layout and settings.
A good friend of ours suggests that soon after the update to iOS 5 the battery life is poor because a lot is going on in the background, such as indexing etc, so maybe you just need to be patient.
If you can’t get to the bottom of things you should perhaps turn display brightness down, turn off unused features and technologies, uninstall apps which you no-longer use, and update to the latest versions of apps that you do use – we hope this helps.
How did you fix the battery drain issue?
